Brazil's largest container operator, Santos Brasil, has a presence at three Brazilian ports and offers services for all stages of the logistics chain. The Company stands out as a result of its responsible management which brings together operational and financial high performance with environmental preservation and social responsibility. This model has guaranteed continuous and sustainable growth.

The Company started activities in 1997 to take part in the auction for the lease of the Tecon Santos container terminal. Ever since it took over the operations of this container terminal, which is the largest in Latin America, it has invested close to R$2.8 billion in present values in acquisitions, diversification of activities, improvements and new equipments.

The rapid growth of foreign trade in Brazil over the last decade has generated at enormous demand for international logistics. This is an area which requires investments in infrastructure, information technology and Company management.

The Company has the on-going objective of offering the most sophisticated and efficient port logistics service and strives to be one of the successful companies of the sector. Over the years, it has consolidated its leadership position, constantly anticipating market demands backed up by a strong brand, which is recognized as a benchmark in quality, safety and productivity.

At Tecon Santos, it has invested in the expansion of the berthing quay, equipment, expansion of the port back yard for the storage of cargo, information technology and labor qualification. It transformed an inefficient terminal into a center of port excellence, an immense laboratory for innovational initiatives geared towards the continuous improvement of its operational efficiency and profitability.

This success strategy is also adopted at the container terminals of Imbituba and Vila do Conde, and necessary investments are carried out in order to offer operational conditions similar to those found at Tecon Santos.

As such, and with the firm belief that its terminals offer great potential, it is responsible for approximately 20% of import and export containers handled in Brazil, and according to the Drewry Shipping Consultants, approximately 7.0% of the containers handled in South America and the Caribbean.

By using synergies and complementarity between businesses, since 2008 it has counted on its logistics operation - Santos Brasil Logistica - in order to offer sophisticated and customized logistics services in addition to the port services offered to its clients, which include port operations, transport and distribution.

Presently, the Company operates in the following business areas:

Container Terminals – port operations with a quay and back yard for container handling.

The Company operates three business units: Tecon Santos (Santos-SP); Tecon Imbituba (Imbituba-SC) and Tecon Vila do Conde (Barcarena-PA);

Port Logistics – this service mainly includes port container logistics outside of the port area. Santos Brasil Logística activities are included within this context;

Vehicles Terminal – this includes port and warehousing operations for the handling of light and heavy vehicles. This service is offered by the Union Armazenagem e Operações Portuárias S.A. (Santos-SP) subsidiary Company.
