The Algar Group is a closed corporation headquartered in the city of Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais, and is one of the strongest corporate groups in Brazil. The name Algar derives from the initials of its founder, Alexandrino Garcia, who introduced his first business in 1929 and currently comprises nine companies that operate in the industries of IT/Telecom (Algar Telecom, Algar Tecnologia, Algar Mídia and Engeset), Agribusiness (Algar Agro), Services (Algar Aviation, Algar Segurança and Comtec) and Tourism (Rio Quente Resorts).

The Algar Group, throughout its history, has been conducted by a consistent corporate governance policy, which evolves year after year. As a result, the Algar Group has become a benchmark family-run organization that maintains high standards of professionalized management. The Company’s DNA includes some other equally important attributes, such as its innovative spirit and its consistent efforts to build up healthy and close relationships with all constituencies, along with its concern to implement sustainable practices across its entire value chain.

The Algar companies comprise a nationwide structure of offices located in over 1,000 cities in the States of Minas Gerais, Goiás, Distrito Federal, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná and Maranhão. At the close of 2011, the Group held a total of 21,152 professionals and approximately two million direct clients who rely on their products and services, including individuals and corporations widely distributed across the whole Brazilian territory.

In 2011, the Group’s operations in consolidated terms generated a net added value in the amount of R$2,024 million. The results distributed to the stakeholders, coupled with the positive image enjoyed by all Algar companies within their respective markets, corroborate the correctness of the Group’s strategic guidelines that direct its long-term committed management.
