Algar Telecom is a Brazilian telecommunication and IT company belonging to Grupo Algar, which distinguishes itself for efficient service, a close relationship with clients, a strong culture of innovation, and a firm commitment to sustainability in all its activities. The Company owns the CTBC brand and directly controls six subsidiaries. The companies jointly have a product and service portfolio in three business segments that complement one another.

The Telecom segment includes fixed line phone services, broadband Internet access (ADSL I, ADSL II, HFC, GPON e 3G), data communication, mobile phone services, Internet provider services and pay television (DTH and cable). Algar Tecnologia offers Business Process and Technology Outsourcing services. Finally, in the Complementary Business segment, Engeset creates and maintains telecom networks, and Algar Mídia produces phone directories and other related media solutions. In 2011, these three segments accounted for 77%, 18% and 5% of Algar Telecom’s consolidated revenues, respectively.

The Company includes the whole of Brazil and, at present, is physically present in the Federal District and six States: Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. It has over 800,000 retail and corporate clients, to whom with it has a long-lasting close relationship.

CTBC, which would later become Algar Telecom, was founded in 1954. Back then, its founder, Mr. Alexandrino Garcia, was already personally concerned about the company’s relationships with clients, suppliers and government bodies; the well-being of its associates; service quality and usefulness; local economic and social development; and ethical business management. In short, Mr. Garcia was concerned about several issues that we currently called sustainability and good corporate governance practices. As a result, the dissemination of sustainable practices throughout its value chain is a chief concern for the Company and is currently structured as a sound corporate governance policy.

Algar Telecom closed 2011 with 15,000 associates – as the Company calls its professionals – and consolidated net revenues of R$ 1,682 million. The results confirm that the Company’s management focuses on growing in a sustainable manner and serving the interests of all stakeholders.
