In this eighth edition of its Annual and Sustainability Report, Eternit S.A. presents its main achievements and highlights of 2014, which encompass and integrate the economic, social and environmental dimensions. The information covers the operations of the entire Company, including the headquarters, four fiber-cement plants, sales offices and three subsidiaries (SAMA S.A. Minerações Associadas, Precon Goiás Industrial Ltda. and Tégula Soluções para Telhados Ltda.). GRI G4-17, G4-29, G4-30

The results of Companhia Sulamericana de Cerâmica S.A. (CSC), a joint venture between Eternit and Companhia Colombiana de Cerâmica S.A. (a company of the Corona Group, a Colombian multinational), which started operating in 2014, were considered in the consolidated financial statements based on the equity method of accounting, as provided for in CPC 36 and IFRS 10 with regard to the consolidated financial statements, and in CPC 19 and IFRS 11 with regard to joint ventures, due to the fact that the shareholders (Eternit and Companhia Colombiana de Cerâmica S.A.) exercise joint control. This report does not consider the result of the unit for the research, development and production of construction material inputs located in Manaus, Amazonas, given that it was under construction during the year.

The period reported in this document comprises January to December 2014. Eternit prepared this report in accordance with the framework of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), an international organization that establishes principles and indicators for reporting corporate sustainability information. It complies with the G4 version, under the comprehensive option, and is aligned with the principles of the Global Compact and the Millennium Goals of the United Nations (UN), to which Eternit has been a signatory since 2007. GRI G4-28, G4-32

The report’s production considered the recommendations of the Brazilian Association of Publicly Traded Companies (ABRASCA), the Brazilian Accounting Standard NBCT 15, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The content of this report, which was based on consultations of stakeholders, was determined based on interviews of the main executives of the Company. It is organized in chapters divided into eight large blocks that portray the values of the Company: Ethics, Transparency, Agility, Commitment to Results, Valuing Employees, Focus on the Customer, Respect for the Environment and Excellence. GRI G4-18, G4-33

Materiality matrix

For the first time, Eternit created its materiality matrix to determine the content of this report and further advance its internal sustainability management.

In this first cycle, in addition to the sector survey, we engaged internal stakeholders, members of the Company’s senior management, and external stakeholders through an online survey, which was completed by investors and capital market analysts, employees, clients, suppliers and trade associations and unions.

In the case of external stakeholders, contact was made with the Company’s priority groups, which were selected in accordance with the importance of their relationship with Eternit, which generated significant return and resulted in a high quality survey.

The senior management, which includes the officers and chief executive officer, contributed to the process by participating in all phases and validating the final result. This made it possible to align the topics for communication with the business vision of these executives. The material topics indicated follow. GRI G4-19, G4-20, G4-21, G4-27, G4-48

Stakeholder engagement

Eternit mapped out the relationships with its stakeholders in 2007, based on the AA1000 methodology developed by the Institute for Social and Ethical Accountability (ISEA) based in London, England. These include suppliers, trade associations and unions, competitors, governments and the society, local communities, the academic community, the media, capital markets and investors, employees, clients and consumers. GRI G4-24

Also in line with its recognized commitment to transparency, the Company maintains various communication channels with the social groups with which it interacts. One of these is the Open Doors Program, whose aim is to help society better understand the mining and processing of chrysotile asbestos, the manufacture of fiber-cement products in a sustainable manner, and the health and safety practices adopted. (Read more about the Open Doors Program in the chapter Excellence) GRI G4-25, G4-26
