The Structured Expansion and Diversification Program, launched in 2007, led Eternit to expand its operations to include the mining and marketing of chrysotile and the production of fiber-cement roofing panels, concrete roofing tiles, construction solutions (wall and cement cladding panels) bathroom chinaware and polyethylene water tanks.
The Company also resells its own and third-party products (metal roofing panels and metal frames, toilet seats, metal bathroom fixtures and roofing accessories). This portfolio makes it the largest and most diversified manufacturer of roofing products in Brazil.
Located In Minaçu, a city in the northern region of the state of Goiás, SAMA is the only chrysotile mining company in Latin America and the world’s first to obtain both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification. SAMA is recognized for the high quality of the fiber it produces and for its rigorous processes for ensuring the health of its employees and for minimizing environmental impacts. The company supplies chrysotile, whose fibers are a key raw material in fiber-cement products, to the domestic market, with the surplus exported. With annual production capacity of 300,000 tons, SAMA maintained its share as the third largest mining company in the global chrysotile market in 2014.
These panels are produced at the company’s four plants and at its subsidiary Precon, in the state of Goiás. With theoretical annual production capacity of 1 million tons, Eternit retained its leadership in Brazil’s fiber-cement market in 2014, with market share of 32%, gaining one percentage point from the previous year. All plants are certified by Norway’s DNV Veritas in the standards ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
With annual production capacity of 10 million square meters, Tégula gained one percentage point of market share to reach 31% and retain its leadership of Brazil’s concrete roofing tile market in 2014. The product comes in a wide variety of profiles, finishings and colors. With its investments always guided by the principle of responsible development, since 2011, Tégula sells wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) for the construction of timber roofing structures.
Since 2008, Eternit sells bathroom chinaware and toilet seats in Brazil by using the production capacity of third parties, and in 2014, Companhia Sulamericana de Cerâmica began conducting trial runs for the production of bathroom chinaware to test its equipment.
