TECON IMBITUBA

Located on the southern coast of the State of Santa Catarina, 90 km from the State capital Florianópolis, Tecon Imbituba is the only container terminal at the Port of Imbituba. Connected to the state road (BR-101) via two access routes, one to the north and the other to the south, the port has access to all the regions of Brazil and to the Mercosur countries.

As it is inserted in one of the major industrial and port areas of the southern region of the Country, the terminal is seen by the Company as the best logistics alternative for shipping routes of the South American coast and the routes from Asia, Europe and the Americas, making use of Imbituba's potential as a port for the concentration and distribution of cargo.

Since it won the public bid for the concession to operate Tecon Imbituba in 2008, Santos Brasil has invested in the extension and modernization of the port complex. Overall, investments of about R$520 million were made, including the leasing of the terminal (25-year contract, renewable for another 25 years), the acquisition of port equipment for container handling, expansion works, material renewal, extension, technological modernization and the training of the local labor force.

The aim of the Company is to offer and equip the terminal with the same technological conditions, equipment and infrastructure of the quays and backside area of Tecon Santos in the southern region.

The Port of Imbituba has also received investments from the Federal Government via projects for the second phase of the PAC 2 (Growth Acceleration Plan), part of which include dredging to deepen the channel from 11 to 15 meters as well as an additional access road lane. In addition to this, the construction of the Coastline Railroad, which will connect the north of Santa Catarina to the Port of Imbituba, integrating the Tereza Cristina railroad with the national rail network, is planned.

The extension work was completed in 2011 with the delivery of 660 linear meters of quay length. Another substantial investment was the acquisition of a two million square meter area for the Imbituba Industrial Complex. Located 6 km from the port in front of a 4.5 km double lane on the BR-101 state road, the space is to be used as logistics support for the container and general cargo terminals leased by the Company in the region, to which refrigerated and container storage, cargo regulator and handling yard activities will be added.

TECON IMBITUBA IS THE COMPANY`S INVESTMENT TO SERVE SUPER-POST-PANAMAX VESSELS.

Because of its proximity to the port area, it is expected to attract industries that use imported materials in their production processes, exporters, refrigerated depots, container yards and other companies.

The acquisition also opens the way for new logistics businesses in the region, for the project is aligned with the Company's strategy of offering Port-to-Door solutions (turnkey services that integrate port and industrial supply activities into a single package of logistics services).

During the year, two ZPMC quay cranes, capable of meeting the needs of the world's largest ULC (Ultra Large Containership) vessels, and simultaneously operating two full 20-ft. or one full 40-ft. container, were purchased, in the amount of US$15 million. The equipment also has a 57-meter spear that enables it to reach up to the 21st container row in large vessels.

With the completion of the extension works, the arrival of the quay cranes and the deepening of the port's channel, Tecon Imbituba is one of the first terminals in the country prepared to receive fifth-generation vessels, capable of shipping up to 13,000 TEU, operating the major international shipping routes, directly benefiting the manufacturing centers of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina and the Mercosur logistics chain. In addition to this, the handling capacity at the terminal will increase from 150,000 TEU to 650,000 TEU per year.
All these investments, allied with the natural characteristics of a maritime port free of physical limitations or access restrictions due to bad weather (currents and winds), make Tecon Imbituba a special terminal, prepared to bring greater competitiveness to all its users.
