ANNUAL REPORT 2012

Guaranteeing the sustainability of its business, for Eternit signifies basing its operation on the three key economic, social and environmental aspects. Good performance in the generation of results is highly dependent on environmentally correct operation and sharing this in a transparent manner with the other public audiences. By the same token, any efforts made to improve the relationship with the Company’s stakeholders for preventing or mitigating environmental impacts depends on the adequate allocation of economic resources.

And because it understands this interdependence, the Company sets out its main impacts from these three aspects below. In order to measure these impacts, Eternit adopts the concept of “externalities”, which cover the positive or negative effects generated by an economic agent and other agents without these having control of the impacts. Due to the distinctive nature of the mining and finished product manufacturing activities, the mapping out of “externalities” is also structured separately for these two areas of activity.
